Knight's Code of Honor

The Saint Joseph Catholic School “Knights Code of Honor” is a code that will help make SJS a great place to be as a school community. The Knights Code of Honor states that each student and teacher will be Ready, will be Caring, will be Respectful, and will be Responsible. The code is clearly displayed in the front lobby of the main building as well as the Middle School hallway.

The teachers and staff will be looking to “Knight” students who are Ready, Caring, Respectful and Responsible. When a student is “Knighted” the student will get a sticker of the code of honor. They will also be recognized each Friday at the school Mass. Randomly Mr. Martin will ask all students that have been “Knighted” that day to come to the office for a prize.

Discipline in the Catholic school is to be considered as an aspect of moral guidance. Positive concepts of discipline are built on a belief in the dignity of each person. A central goal of the school is to help students develop self-discipline. Self-direction, rather than external control, is the ultimate aim of true discipline.

The purpose of discipline is to ensure a classroom and school environment, which is conducive to learning, and to promote character development, which cultivates the virtues that ensure Christian living, and to redirect inappropriate behavior. Our school wide approach to discipline is based on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), an evidence based framework for developing positive behavior in schools. The premise of the PBIS approach is that continual teaching, modeling, and reinforcing of positive behaviors will reduce discipline problems and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning.

A Discipline Team will work together to implement PBIS. This will include school wide interventions and programs to encourage Christian Character and positive behaviors. The discipline team will also develop intervention plans for individual students needing additional support. Throughout the discipline process there will be ongoing communication with the parents. School discipline matters and referrals will be discussed monthly/and or as needed by the discipline team.
