Scholastic Reading Counts
The link listed below contains a list of Reading Counts quizzes that are available at Saint Joseph School. Please note the school library does not contain all books on this list; therefore, please use your local library or book store as an additional resource. The site is an interactive site that enables you to search for a book by Lexile score, Subject, Author or Title. When searching by Lexile score enter a range of 100 points below to 50 points above your child’s Lexile score as a guide for appropriate reading level.
Instructions for Scholastic Reading Counts Test
Welcome back to another year of good reading! This year we will continue the Scholastic Reading Counts Program for independent reading. Students read books and take computerized quizzes. To receive an award, students must read the required number of Reading Counts books listed below (at their individual Lexile level) and pass the Reading Counts quiz.
Grades 1st-2nd: 6 Reading Counts books per quarter
Grades 3rd-5th: 4 Reading Counts books per quarter
Middle School: 2 Reading Counts books per quarter
Please note: Scholastic, Inc. has selected all books listed for the Reading Counts program. Many of these books are available in the library and in the classrooms. Students are encouraged to purchase or check out their own copies from the school or public libraries. The quizzes can be taken in the classrooms, or in the library during approved school hours. This is challenging reading! The children’s books and novels are chosen based on Caldecott, Newbery, Georgia Book Awards, and American Library Association (ALA) recommendations. As is true with other media, parents are the best judges of appropriate books for their children.
