Language Arts
The Middle School Language Arts program addresses the goals for Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Study Skills. Reading is centered around class novel studies, Literature Circles, and participation in Battle of the Books in order to foster a lifelong love of reading. Writing is taught both for communication of ideas, opinions, and feelings related to literature and content area studies, but also to reinforce skills learned through direct grammar instruction. Vocabulary acquisition is encouraged within the context of all reading, as well as through intensive skills practice. Multi-sensory projects are incorporated into most units of study in order to achieve greatest retention of skills learned.
