Established in Athens in 1949, Saint Joseph Catholic Parish School is a ministry of Saint Joseph Catholic Parish and is a part of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

The mission of Saint Joseph Catholic Parish School is to Support the growth and development of our students by modeling a faith-filled life, encouraging self empowerment, inspiring the pursuit of excellence and by promoting global knowledge in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

About our Students:

  • We serve students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade
  • 190 total enrollment
  • 77 middle school students in grades 6th through 8th
  • Average class size is 20 students
  • All students are welcome at Saint Joseph School, regardless of Religious affiliation
  • We draw students from Athens-Clarke County and surrounding counties such as Oconee, Jackson, Oglethorpe, and Walton among others
  • Our current student population is 78% Catholic and 22% non-Catholic
  • GRACE Scholarships are awarded to eligible students transferring in from public schools (scholarship application deadline is March 1st)
  • Financial Assistance is available for qualifying families
  • In 2014-2015 SJS awarded over $225,000 in tuition assistance, with an average award of $3,500 per student

About our Academics and Extra-Curricular Programs:

  • Students receive daily instruction in core curriculum areas including: Math, Reading, Literature, Grammar, Spelling, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religion
  • All Students receive instruction in our Enrichment Programs, which include: Art, Music, Middle School Band, Spanish, Computer Sciences, Physical Education, and Library
  • With SMART Board technology available in every classroom and 1:1 student issued Chromebooks in grades 4 through 8th, SJS offers extensive instructional technology
  • Students are also offered additional activities and leadership opportunities, some of which include:  Technology Team, Video Announcement Production Team, Service Learning projects, Middle School Embassadors, Prayer Partners/Student Mentors, School Choir, Altar Servers, Math Counts, Battle of the Books, Oratorical Competition, 4-H, River Watch Environmental Club ...and other activities
  • Athletics Program provides Cheerleading (grades 4th-8th), Cross Country (5th-8th), Volleyball (5th-8th), and Middle School Basketball, Soccer, and Tennis
  • Extended Day Program is available for all students until 6pm for an additional fee

About our Campus:

  • Our new state of the art 65,000 square foot campus buildings are located conveniently off Epps Bridge Parkway near the Athens-Clarke/Oconee County line
  • Our 46-acre campus boasts a new all-weather artificial turf soccer field as well as a track and cross country course
  • Our well-equipped playground affords all of our students with daily outdoor recess fun and exercise
  • Our high school regulation gym allows us to host volleyball and basketball games as well as provides an optimal space for our school-wide physical education program

About our School Family:

  • At SJS, we believe parental involvement and collaboration are of paramount importance in educating the whole child
  • Parents are instrumental members of our school community as many serve in our Home and School Association, School Advisory Board, and Development Committee
  • Every class has parent Room Representatives who help us coordinate everything from fun classroom parties to middle school dances
